Wiz Included Games

The GP2X Wiz is the latest hand held system from Game Park Holdings (GPH). GameParkHoldings is the Korean business that produced and marketed the GP2X line of hand helds. GPH was started by individuals that left the company named “Gamepark.” Gamepark was the company that produced the GP32 hand held gaming system.

The most typical use of the Wiz is for open source games and applications. The devkit is free to download and use, and there is an active community supporting this home brew development.  As an example, the recently made available Giana Sisters download was created using this open-source development kit.

Of course, you can game with it and use it as a handheld organizer. This ain’t no status symbol handheld like say the PSP or Nintendo DS is. It’s for gadgeteers that want to break away of the Sony and Big N norm and play with something exciting and new.

Emulation seems to be the most popular application on the Game Park line of portables. This varies from emulation of classic gameconsoles like the Game Gear or the Sega Genesis to computer systems such as the Commodore 64. It also includes emulators serving a wide range of systems like the Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator (or MAME). Of course, there exist official videogames for the Wiz, but that’s not what I’m here to discuss.

To wrap things up, let us take a look at some of the specs for this interesting new handheld system. The GP2X Wiz is centered around the MagicEyes Pollux chip and sports a 533MHz ARM 9 processor (which can easily be overclocked to around 700MHz). It uses SD flash chips for its disk memory, and has 1GB of internal non-volatile memory. Out of the box, the GP2X Wiz runs Linux, which is excellent for the open-source OS nerds out there.

You might want to consider picking up a Wiz. It is enjoyable to develop games and applications for the GP2X Wiz, and there are several emulators and games out there already. If you’re interested in the GP2X Wiz, I suggest that you look around for a suitable review of the GP2X Wiz on Google.
